NEC subsidiary to supply submarine cable

Japan's NEC Corporation reports that it has signed "a multi-million dollar supply contract," through its Taiwan subsidiary, NEC (Taiwan) Co., Ltd., with Chunghwa Telecom to supply a 510  km system that will link Taoyan (North Taiwan) with Matsu and Tainan (South Taiwan) with Kinmen through Penghu.

A press release said that the project, the Taiwan Penghu Kinmen Matsu No. 3 (TPKM3) submarine cable system, requires a high-bandwidth, non-repeater optical submarine cable. The contract calls for NEC to supply optical submarine cables for non-repeater systems and conduct the ocean-lay work, it said. The system, it noted, will help meet domestic demand for voice and internet connectivity.
