Charity Golf Tournament
Sunday • May 6 • 8:30 a.m. Tee-off • Big Met Course • Fairview Park, Ohio
A round of golf, lunch, and refreshments are in store for golfers after a continental breakfast and shotgun start at the Big Met golf course, just 10 minutes from the I-X Center, in Fairview Park, Ohio. WAI’s Ohio Valley Chapter will host this scramble format event with team and individual prizes. The $125 registration fee includes transportation, lunch, refreshments, greens fees, and cart. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

WAI’s annual meeting and awards ceremony will highlight outstanding individuals whose industry research or contributions result in enhanced manufacturing or production techniques. Professor Michael A. Roberto of Bryant University will show how a clearly crafted and implemented business strategy helps firms thrive in some of the world’s toughest business environments. He will examine specific industry sectors to illustrate how these winning principles apply to all organizations competing in the global market. A former member of the Harvard Business School faculty, Professor Roberto is the author of Why Great Leaders Don’t Take Yes For An Answer. Light refreshments will be served.

"Where is the Money in Wire & Cable?”

Presenter Philip Radbourne, Integer Research, will explore the changing landscape of the global industry through a recent performance comparison between the leading Western producers and emerging players in China and Taiwan. Also get an overview of the U.S. wire and cable sector.


5K Road Race

WAI's third annual 5K Road Race begins and returns to the Renaissance Hotel where refreshments and a commemorative t-shirt will await all participants, compliments of race sponsor Leoni Wire, Inc. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Charter Steel Plant Tour

Wednesday • May 9 • 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Tour Charter Steel’s Cleveland manufacturing complex where special bar, quality bar, rod and wire products are made. The walking tour will begin in the primary steelmaking facility and proceed through the rolling, packaging, and shipping departments. The facility is capable of processing billet cross sections ranging from 130 to 180 mm, with production sizes that range from 5/16" (8 mm) to 1 9/16" (40 mm) with approximate annual capacity of 800,000 tons.
Tour highlights include:

• primary steelmaking equipment manufactured by Danieli;
• a 77 short ton AC electric arc furnace with twin shell construction;
• a tank degasser that maintains quality through management of hydrogen, oxygen and

nitrogen;
• a four strand caster producing cast sizes of 8" x 8" (203 mm) down to 5" x 5" (140 mm); and
• a 9 meter machine radius that feeds into a modular-type, multi-point straightener with soft

reduction capabilities.

Interwire’s “Wire in Motion” theme naturally extends to the aerospace industry in which air and space travel is aided by wire applications for industrial, commercial, and military use.

NASA representatives will discuss space exploration at Interwire.


Representatives from NASA will present consecutive talks on Thursday morning at the I-X Center entitled: “Vision for Space Exploration: Earth, Moon, Mars, and Beyond,” and “Columbia Accident Investigation Report and Return to Flight of the Space Shuttle,” at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.


Attendees are also invited to tour NASA’s nearby Glenn Research Center on self-guided and guided tours—at 9:30 a.m. and Noon, respectively—of the facility where research into power, propulsion, communications, and microgravity science is conducted. Tour departs from and returns to the WAI Member Lounge. Space is limited; register today.
