Dies are an essential part of any drawing process, but they are often viewed as a commodity product. Ron Garceau and Al Kozlowski of Paramount Die Co. will highlight a number of issues relevant to the evaluation of the condition of wire dies.

If wire drawers use the correct lubricant, they can reduce their usage and save money. Jonathan Anderson, Michael Colvin, and Jack Hall of Aztech Lubricants LLC will show attendees how to look at temperatures, materials, speeds, drafting, and other factors affecting lubrication. The “green” approach to reducing waste can also reduce lubricant cost per ton.

Kevin Davis of Ideal Welding Systems will discuss the process of conventional welding and applications. A demonstration will be given of conventional welding on a wire welder.

How to set up and adjust a two-plane roll straightener | 2:45 p.m. (Wed.) | 12:00 p.m. (Thu.)

James Jolda of Sjogren Industries Inc. will show the proper setup and adjustment of a two-plane roll straightener to remove cast and helix from a spooled wire sample. The demonstration will feature a wire payoff stand utilizing a Sjogren constant tension feedback magnetic brake leading to a Sjogren two-plane roll straightener.

Fundamentals of mechanical descaling | 3:30 p.m. (Wed.) | 12:30 p.m. (Thu.)
Attendees will learn from Wire Lab Co.'s Rob Fulop about five different descaling systems from an application standpoint and have the unique opportunity to discuss current or proposed applications for mechanical descaling or technical matters relevant to their wiredrawing operation.
