Skin effect in stranded wire was created by Archived Forum Admin
Does any one have any calc or research to show the of what the skin effect is in stranded wire? I suspect that because each strand is slightly oxidized that it may be slightly deeper then the normal depth of penetration at a given frequency for AC, but not the total cross section as would be for litz wire...any comment would be greatly valued,

Hello again Ben,

Could you be a little more specific about the stranded conductors you are interested in re skin effect?
A) - Large Conductor Power Cable - Concentrically Stranded or to the standard Milliken design.

B) - Concentrically Stranded Conductor Audio Cable to say 20 kHz.

C) - Data Cables with concentrically stranded conductors.

D) - Radio Frequency Cables with concentrically stranded inner conductors.

E) - Other, please elaborate.

I'm interested in carrying large amount of current at with multiples of 2/0 7/37/23 at a frequency from 60 to 300hz. I may have application to 10,000hz in the future.

What an unusual construction (67 wires)! Is this perhaps a 1/6/12/18/24 (61 wire) conductor?

Type in Skin-Effect Calculation exactly as shown and see if there is anything there that gives you the precise information you are looking for.
