Is there a way to calculate a wire length before puting several forms into it. Most of the bends we do are 90 deg. Wire diameter is .120 , .148 , .187 , and .243

Hi Eric,

I am guessing that the problem is the radius of the wire at each bend. Please confirm.

If this is the case then I think that with some accurate measurements to confirm same, it would be fairly easy to use geometry to figure this out.

You may also wish to talk this over with your bending machine manufacturer.

The radius that we are trying to hold is .125 in for the centerline. I can generate a length by meauring the cenerline of the path of the geometry . With that given is there a way to use the centerline to estimate how much the wire will draw or grow?

Eric,

It becomes the basic question on bending. There is so call a netural line, that varies according to material. I mean the tensile and compression. As the outter radius will under tensile and inner radius is under compression.

The ratio of netural line can refer to textbaook on sheet metal bending or press die reference.

ASM has a good reference, Die Design Handbook.
