I could not find the WAI yearbook but with 30 years you are the one I was looking for. I am looking for some technical help on pumping the Formvar. I do not want to go and re-engineer the system and unfortunately since I have never seen an application system up close I not sure how it is engineered. One of the first questions I have is what kind of pump is the best for pumping the Formvar? Also I assume most companies filter the Formvar before going to the applicator tray. What kind of filter would work for the Formvar? Any light you can shine on the system would be great. I have many more questions but that is a start. Thanks

If you have a very long and detailed entry and you are unsure if your log in is still valid, take a copy by clicking the left mouse button and then dragging to highlight. Once highlighted, click the right mouse button to bring up the copy command and copy and paste to "Windows Notepad". Now you have a copy you cannot lose.

Then all you have to do is log in again and cut and paste from "Notepad"

Often I compose a detailed response in "Notepad" before logging in and entering it.

Peter, Mark, I was trying to not be commercial.
Mark you didn't say if you had a vertical or horizontal oven. It is not that critical but it helps to know when you are designing a system because that would contribute to how the enamel is delivered to the applicator. A typical system would include the following; a tank or resevoir which would contain a submerged pump. Yes there would be a filtration system with filters compatible with formvar. Depending upon what you are doing, tank could have a heater, or there could be a secondary bowl mounted higher than the applicator. since you are pumping to the applicator you need to be able to return excess enamel to the tank.

We have vertical ovens. I think I can retro fit the current applicator to work with a pump system. I was going to install a small wall between where the wire picks up the Formvar and the drain hole. Basically creating a dam and the Formvar will flow over the top to the drain hole. That concept worked, I rigged up a pump with the dam installed and it looked like it would work. The pump although did not seem to be good. It was a diaphragm pump that we had.
My concept was a five-gallon tank or so with a pump in it. Pumping though a filter up to the applicator tray and then gravity feed back to the tank. Of course with this a viscosity sensor that would send a signal to a controller that would add the correct amount of solvent to control the viscosity. I have a local company that came help with the viscosity part. I need some insight to the type of pumps that people use and the kind of filtration system that works with Formvar. Hope this helps.
