Hi Stephen,

Generally the machine manufacturer supplies the equations and know-how with the machine so one of your best sources for the information is your machine manuals. It may also be worth contacting the manufacturer for new copies of the manuals if the originals have been lost.

The braiding equations are far too complex to be presented in the WAI forums so here are some other alternatives;

(a) Go to www.wirenet.org/technical/abstract/abstract.cfm

- Type in Braiding in the "Title" section and check out the technical papers on file.

- In particular, take a look at the paper "Nomography to optimize wire and cable braiding, serving and taping operations" by "Andre Camelin, Les Cables de Lyon, France and Nancy Spadinger, Les Cables de Lyon, USA" (Now all Nexans plants.) The description? - "The purpose of this paper is to present the formulas existing between the various design parameters for taping, serving, braiding and armoring wire and cable."

Hopefully you will find everything you need in that paper.

(b) Most engineers find it very straightforward to convert dimensions from Metric to Imperial measurement and perform the calculations that way.

- Go back to www.wirenet.org/technical/abstract/abstract.cfm

- Type in Braiding again and review the other papers available.

Here is where you can get the best units conversion program in the world and it's free! joshmadison.com/software/convert/
I hope this helps you.

Hi Frank,

One of the most interesting things here is to click on the profile button for any particular message. If you click on Mr. Bowles profile, you will see he lives in South Africa.

If Mr. Bowles doesn't make the Cleveland show, would it be possible to have him contact you directly and thereby have a copy mailed to him? If so, could you leave your E-mail address here so he can get hold of you privately?

Moreover, if you don't mind, I will drop in and see you at Interwire and get a copy for myself. I will add it to my personal technical library.

Thank you.
