Cold drawing undersize problem was created by Mr yigit sasmaz
Dear all;

We have undersize problem on our wire drawing machines and also we couldnt find the root cause of this. We draw high carbon wire rods and for instance our last die is 2.18 mm but sometimes we measure 2.02 mm. Is there anyone help about this situation ?

thank you

The under size might be due to deposits on finishing dies , deposits can be due to lubricant getting harder inside the dies instead of flowing or if wire is galvanized , it can be zinc been deposited inside the dies.

Check on type of lubricant being used, die profile (very important) and if it is galvanized wire, on zinc adherence.

Dear Eduardo;

You are right, we have seen some deposits on coiler when there is a undersize wire, we wipe out deposits and keep going. Also sometimes when we face with undersize, and couldnt find anything although check all die dia, bearings etc. About die profile, what we have to check ?

Thank you.

Mr. Sasmaz, possible causes could be also:
1. sharp die reduction angle, so try last die with lower reduction angle
2. wire elongation at last drawing step, so check kinematics and slipping conditions (in case we talk about slipping type drawing machine)

Hi Eduardo,

In addition to the prior comments a rotating die holder for the last pass might assist you in solving this issue

Best Regards,

Willy
