High Strands was created by Archived Forum Admin
I was reading the link posted on the last The WAI Connection about high strands. The discussion is closed, however I just thought to share additional information on the high strand and how to prevent high strand issues in front of the extrusion cross head. Peter is right that nearly every case of high strand issues is tracked back to the stranding process. What I have learned that beside a uniform tension for each layer and each individual wire you need also uniform elongation of each wire. You can strand any wire elongation from un-annealed to above 30% on Cu wires. But each wire has to have the same elongation or at least within a narrow tolerance of 2% elongation. Most people take it for granted that you achieve with today’s multiwire annealers the same elongation for all processed wire. This isn’t always the case.
