Tratos UK to expand plant, product lines
Tratos UK, a subsidiary of Italy's Tratos Cavi SpA, plans to expand its U.K. production facility in the Knowsley Business Park in Merseyside, and to extend its product range.
A report in the Liverpool Daily Post said that the company, which secured a £3.5m loan from the Chrysalis Fund, will create more than 100 new jobs. Tratos UK, which currently specializes in low-voltage cables for the power distribution industry, plans to expand into medium-voltage cables as well as cables for the offshore wind industry and for the U.K.'s
expanding railway network, it said. The loan, it noted, will help the company acquire an additional adjacent site in Randles Road for its expansion as well as add new production equipment. "Overall, the project will deliver more than 100,000 sq ft of new and refurbished manufacturing capacity," it said.
"The redevelopment and expansion of our existing facility not only protects existing jobs, but will assist in regenerating the area and creating more job opportunities," said Tratos Finance Director Kevin Martin.
At the company's website, Tratos UK notes that the company's head office and sales offices are located in London while production is done in Merseyside, "where it has four extrusion lines along with multiple laying machines for up to 100 pairs of instrumentation type cables, as well as two BX armoring machines for manufacture of corrugated aluminum/steel armor."
"It is great to see a Knowsley firm with such ambitious expansion plans and we're delighted to facilitate this next step in the company's growth," said Jim Gill, chair of the Chrysalis Fund. "This investment in the expansion of Tratos's production facilities in Knowsley represents an important boost to the manufacturing sector in the city region, creating jobs and building the supply chain for key sector development in the region."
Tratos Ltd. also has three factories in Italy.
