Title: Patenting process with water quench for steel wire
Authors: Robert Zacher, CPA Wire Technologies GmbH, Austria
Description: In steel wire patenting, the wires are cooled after austenitization from approximately 1000°C to approximately 500 to 600°C in order to transfrom to sorbite. Up to now, this has occurred in liquid lead, molten salt, or fluidized sand. Thanks to a newly developed cooling technology using a water bath, it is possible to introduce an environmentally sound system which results in the desired sorbitic microstructural conditions.
