This paper deals with classification and interpretation of the origin of typical defects found on Al-1350 rectangular wire. It characterizes defects by means of metallographical analysis as well as optical and scanning electronic microscopy. Metallographical analysis revealed a recrystallized grain structure regardless of the original structure, due to the high extrusion temperature. In particular, oxide inclusions have distinct morphological characteristics and were found to be related either to rod quality or process conditions. |
