This webinar reviews basic terminology for AC and DC current, typical applications, and derivation for the units of measure. A brief history of the "War of Currents" is presented. This describes the debate when the US was deciding whether to use AC or DC for power distribution. The course concludes with an overview of copper refining and a comparison of properties for copper and aluminum.
Larry Powell is Cable & Copper Alloys Sr. Technical Lead for Delphi, Warren, Ohio, USA. He has been responsible for project management of cost reduction initiatives for the company since 2004. He previously held various assignments in cable engineering for General Motors/Delphi starting in 1978. Prior to that he worked in the field testing and engineering garage as well as in application engineering for GM. He has extensive experience working on SAE and ISO standards committees. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Youngstown State University.
