Melting of copper cathode samples 2 years 9 months ago #1241

Is there any procedure for melting copper cathode samples using graphite crucible in a muffle furnace??

Hello again baji1985,

Could you give us a little more information please.

- Is this a laboratory size electric muffle furnace? Please confirm or describe what you have.

- Are you using glassy (vitreous) carbon crucibles?

Hopefully that will get you an answer sooner.

Thank you.

Re: Melting of copper cathode samples 2 years 9 months ago #1243

Hello Mr. Vettecoupe,

I want to melt copper cathode samples in order to know about the impurities present in it. Is there any proper analytical procedure for this???

We are having Muffle furnace for this purpose. And am not clear about crucible which is more optimum for this process.

Somebody recommended that an induction furnace should be used for this process.

So I am little bit confused. Kindly provide necessary instrument details.

We planned to start this analytical testing recently. Hence we are in need to procure necessary consumables. Previously we wanted to use Graphite crucible, but there are some practical constraints in getting graphite crucibles in UAE. Hence we want an alternative procedure for this process.

Could you please provide us the optimum procedure to melt copper cathode samples given by standardized bodies such as ASTM, BS, or any other?

Regards,

Siva,

It didn't mentioned about the direct facts, such as crucibles etc.they are implying about sampling whenever there's dispute raising between supplier & manufacturer. Moreover it tolds about melting through ingots.
