Power Cable was created by Archived Forum Admin
Can 1.1 KV power cable be used in sea water?
Construction of cable: 1.1 KV, stranded Aluminum conductor, XLPE insulated, PVC sheathed, galvanized steel strip armoured, and FRLS PVC outer sheathed.
Can this cable be used in salty sea water? If not what extra mechanical or electrical features are required to make it a submarine cable?

Hello Vikas,

There are many, many undersea high, medium and low voltage power cables installed around the world. Unfortunately the design you have described is not even close to being an undersea/ underwater or submarine cable. I suggest you do an abstract search of the WAI technical files. Click on the "The WAI Connection" logo above and look for submarine cables. You should to be able to buy papers that will give you some insight into the designs.

If you want to see a picture of submarine cables go to www.fujikura.com.sg/subcable.htm and click on the picture to get a larger size. It's a lot different from what you are talking about. Note the heavy armour and the armour protection amongst other things.
