Contact bands continuos annealer was created by Archived Forum Admin
Good day:

We have wire drawers with coninuous annealers. The principal problem is that we don't have available the contact band. We don't know exactly the type of band that we have to use.
Is important for us to find a supplier for that type of contact bands. We hope someone here could help us.

Thanks.

Hello there,

We assume that you are presently using copper contact bands because these bands are actually wear components just like the brakes in a car.

The bands are often made by the maintenance department or by a local machine shop. First, copper sheet of the correct thickness is purchased and after that, it is cut to the proper length and width. The strip is then ground on the edges slightly so that it will properly fit into the annealer sheave side grooves (or in some other mechanical device) designed to accept the band and to prevent a sharp edge at the flat surface gap, once installed. Finally it is rolled into the proper circular shape.

Today, these bands are usually manufactured from nickel to minimize surface damage from arcing/ sparking in the event of a broken wire and to provide a tougher metal wear band that is less prone to grooving. These bands are reversed (side to side) once by the maintenance department before being discarded.

Replacement bands are available from the annealer manufacturer unless of course you are using Vaughan annealers. In that case you must already be making your own bands.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for correcting the information, I took the data from the Wireworld site and they must have an old link in there.
