Drafting

The reduction-per-pass in a multiple die machine. To take advantage of annealed or soft supply rod or wire, the first several dies take a larger reduction than the downstream balance of the dies. This is also called tapered drafting. The subsequent drafts are usually of equal amounts of reduction. This is called straight drafting.
