Ferranti Effect

When the voltage is greater than the source voltage in an AC cable or transmission line. The name stems from Sebastian de Ferranti, whose attempt to transmit electricity in 1890 initially worked, but soon resulted in fires that destroyed the transformers. The cause was believed to be higher voltage at the receiving end, caused by resonance.
