Pulling-In Dog

A type of clamp used on a wiredrawing machine to grip the end of the wire when threading up. The dog is attached to a chain and hooked into the drawing block, enabling the wire to be drawn through the die and a few turns around the block. When a sufficient number turns have been drawn, it is detached from the block and the end secured.
