Two-Phase Circuit

A polyphase circuit of three to five conductors in which the alternating current between any two selected pairs of conductors, other than a neutral if one exists, have the same periods, are equal in amplitude and have a phase difference of 90 degrees. Although 4-wire and 5-wire two-phase circuits are commonly called “two-phase circuits,” they could more properly be called four-phase circuits.
