Hot dip galvanizing was created by Archived Forum Admin
Using a .105 diameter 1065 carbon steel as a process size, what would be the thickness in oz/ft2 of a hot dip galvanized coating? Also, if this .105 wire were drawn down to .050", what would be the calculated thickness of the coating at that size? Thanks for any help. Mike Caranna

I would recommend that you send an email to Mack Young at Davis Wire. He is an expert in that field and I'm sure he would be happy to answer your question.

The Galvanizing temperature ( Zic Bath temperature ) and time of inmersion ( lenght of inmersion / speed )are variables affecting the coating.

In general, these are the coatings that should be expected on 1065 steel:

.105" 1.2 oz/ ft2
.050" 0.5 oz/ ft2

Kindest Regards

The method of wiping the molten zinc is the primary determiner.
