Background

Wire Expo is organized by WAI and is held biennially in a different industry hub within the U.S. for the wire and cable manufacturing industry. The event incorporates practical paper presentations, a comprehensive exhibit, on-floor production solutions demonstrations, networking activities, and more. Wire Expo originated in Boston in 1990 and has since been hosted in the following locations: Louisville, Kentucky; Detroit, Michigan; Charlotte, North Carolina; Cleveland, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; Chicago, Illinois; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Dallas, Texas; and Uncasville, Connecticut.

Official Publication 

Wire Journal International (WJI) is the leading magazine for the wire and cable industry. With twelve issues published per year, WJI never misses a month of coverage and is written for executives, engineers, technical and sales professionals, and purchasing agents engaged in the manufacture of ferrous and nonferrous wire and cable; electrical wire and cable; fiber optic cable; and formed and fabricated wire products. Coverage includes management, marketing and manufacturing methods and technical developments related to production of wire and cable products; industry news, trends and events; personnel appointments; and patent updates.

Exhibitors

Exhibiting companies comprise suppliers to the industry and manufacturers of wire; cable; and fastener, formed and fabricated wire products. Historically, exhibiting companies have represented all sectors of metal and fiber.

International Technical Conference

Background

Each year WAI hosts an educational conference in a different country to unite industry experts from around the world who share the latest research findings in a particular segment of the wire and cable industry with their peers and colleagues. Usually scheduled over a two- to three-day period, the International Technical Conferences (ITC) include white paper presentations—which are typically offered with simultaneous translation—a tabletop exhibition, plant tours, guest tours, and social functions. 

Past Locations

Two International Technical Conferences were held in 2023. one was held in Verona, Italy, and the other in Monterrey, Mexico. Past ITC locations include: Germany, Turkey, India, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Italy, Canada, England, Poland, and Belgium. 

Exhibitors

Tabletop exhibits are typically offered in conjunction with the conference. Exhibiting companies comprise of suppliers to the industry and manufacturers of wire; cable; and fastener, formed and fabricated wire products. Historically, exhibiting companies have represented all sectors of metal and fiber. 

Visitors

International Technical Conference delegates receive Conference Proceedings materials which include all of the papers that are presented at the event.

Fundametals of Wire Manufacturing Course

General Information

The objective is to prepare a feature story for the Wire Journal International that recognizes wire and cable professionals under the age of 40 who are working in an operations capacity.  The result will be to spotlight the younger generation that is essential to the industry and the Association.


Application/Nominating Process

  • An online nominating form, which will serve as the application, has been generated to facilitate the process.
  • The nominations must be made by a supervisor of the nominee or by an operational manager/executive in the company.
  • Nominated individuals must be working in the operations function.
  • Nominated individuals can be representing any wire and cable industry sector.
  • No more than one (1) individual can be nominated from a plant and no more than two candidates can be nominated from a company.
  • We recommend that the nominee be aware of the nomination.


Application Requirements

  1. Name, company, address, company/plant size, industry sector
  2. Brief description (no more than 50 words) of the individual's current responsibilities
  3. Detailed description of the specific reason for the nominations (up to 150 words)
  4. List of prior positions, degrees if any, and other noteworthy professional accomplishments
  5. Two photographs (no less than 500 KB).  If selected, the photo will appear in the Wire Journal International. Corporate headshots are acceptable, as well as a photo from the plant floor or with a backdrop of the company name and a second photograph from outside of work.


Selection

The WAI Board of Directors will select 2019 winners.
